Dinosaurs Return To The Jacksonville Zoo On March 2

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens will soon feel just a bit like Jurassic Park, but without the danger.

The Dinosauria exhibit is making a making a return visit to the zoo, opening on Friday, March 2.

The animatronic exhibit will feature 21 life-size, animatronic dinosaurs to the Zoo.

Visitors will be able to take  a self-guided, paleontological journey back through time to the supercontinent of Pangea.

Triceratops, Carnotaurus, and T. Rex will be joined by a 50-foot long Spinosaurus and Therizinosaurus.

“We are excited to bring dinosaurs back to the Zoo,” said Tony Vecchio, Executive Director of Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens in a news release.

The zoo is also billing the exhibit as an educational opportunity. Children are encouraged to gets hands-on in the fossil dig pit. Signage teaches not only about dinosaurs, but also the shifting continents as land masses moved and climates changed.

Dinosauria runs through July 7 and costs an additional $4 for the general public and $3 for zoo members.

The exhibit is included in the zoo’s revamped Total Experience Tickets. Dinosauria is free to members from March 5-9 during regular zoo hours.

A dinosaur-themed Spring Camp is planned from March 19-23. It will feature an educational opportunity to combine the fun of dinosaurs with learning about their modern relatives.
