Ships make preparations for Hurricane Matthew at Naval Station Mayport on Oct. 5, 2016.

The Navy wants to make sure its families in Jacksonville are ready for this year’s hurricane season.

Naval Station Mayport is hosting an emergency preparedness resource fair Tuesday that organizer Chantel Williams said will explain things like what to do if the base is evacuated.

“So they would need to know how to evacuate.  If they don’t have the funds for that, how can they get funds for that? And once they return from the evacuation how to be reimbursed for it,” Williams said in explaining the exercise.

Williams said families and dependents will also find out what to pack, what to do with their pets and will know they won’t have to face the emergency alone. “You do have a big military community that you can rely on that will help you get ready for that,” said Williams.

Mayport’s emergency preparedness resource fair starts at 5 p.m. Tuesday  at the Ocean Breeze Conference Center on base.
