The beach water advisory issued Tuesday for a small section of Jekyll Island has been lifted.
The advisory was originally issued after tested water samples found the enterococcus bacteria to be above the Environmental Protection Agency’s recommended standards in the Middle Beach area at the convention center.
Subsequent water samples taken showed that the bacteria levels have dropped below the EPA’s recommended limits, according to the Glynn County Health Department.
The source of the bacteria spike isn’t known but possible causes could have included animal waste, storm water runoff, or boating waste.
