Is it the Florida-Georgia game or the Georgia-Florida game? It’s an age old debate between fans of the annual rivalry between the University of Florida and the University of Georgia at TIAA Bank Field.
WJCT sports analyst Cole Pepper said Monday on First Coast Connect that people in the Sunshine State typically put Florida first. But, he says, he prefers the traditional naming convention.
“Everybody wants their team mentioned first for some reason, like that has something to do with anything. But I am going by the old rule of whoever won last year gets said first.”
The number three Bulldogs came out on top last year, beating the Gators 47 to 7. This year, Pepper said the Dawgs and the Gators are both in the Top 10. That hasn’t happened since 1999.
“The social scene is always a big deal but this also will include a football game that really could influence the SEC East race but also the national title picture,” said Pepper.
Ninth ranked Florida faces Seventh ranked Georgia on Saturday in Jacksonville. Kickoff is at 3:30.
