If you’ve listened to a StoryCorps segment on Morning Edition, you might wish you could preserve a bit of your own past as well. And now you can in Jacksonville.
For the next five weeks the Peabody Award-winning oral history project will be recording the conversations of people here on the First Coast.
StoryCorps has set up its Airstream mobile recording booth in Riverside’s Memorial Park.
WJCT’s Circe LeNoble said every story, no matter how mundane, has value.
"You don’t have to have something you think is important to say. Some lady called and said the last time StoryCorps was here, she recorded a story with her mother and her mother’s no longer here. And it wasn’t this important, life-changing topic—it was just a conversation.”
The StoryCorps booth is here through Friday, December 21. Reservations are being accepted now for appointments through December 3. Appointments for December 4 through 21 can be booked starting Tuesday, November 20.
Conversations recorded by StoryCorps are archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress so that future generations can hear them.
