A Nassau County fifth grade teacher got quite the surprise at school assembly Thursday when she found out she was the winner of a national teaching prize.

Jennifer Albert teaches science and math at Emma Love Hardee Elementary School in Fernandina Beach.

According to the Milken Family Foundation, the Educator Award recognizes teachers like Albert for the good they do now and the promise of what they can accomplish in the future.

The award comes with a no-strings-attached $25,000 prize that Albert can spend as she sees fit.

She’s one of 40 Milken Educator Award winners this year and the only one in Florida.
