Video: Baby Bongo Goes On Display At Jacksonville Zoo
The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is showing off its latest arrival.
An Eastern bongo calf was born at the zoo on December 28 to parents Molly, 17, and Tambo, 10.
The female calf joins her half-sister who was born to Tambo and Sequoia in June of 2018.
The critically endangered Eastern bongo species is native to the mountains and tropical forests of sub-Saharan Africa.
The Jacksonville calf’s birth is part of the Bongo Species Survival Plan, a cooperative breeding program between accredited zoos.
After a checkup, the calf was put on display at the zoo’s mixed-species habitat along the African Boardwalk.
