American Legion Post 137 is having a fundraiser at 5 p.m. Saturday to support the family of Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office bailiff Cathy Lynn Adams, who was killed in a Dec. 9 crash that also seriously injured her police officer husband William Jack Adams. Their teen children also were injured.
Our Florida Times-Union news partner reports Post 137 is hosting the event at 5443 San Juan Ave., with a $25 donation providing a barbecue dinner, drinks and live musical entertainment by the Jason Evans Band. Set up by fellow officers with help from the Fraternal Order of Police, further funds will be raised by a raffle, silent auction and 50/50 drawing.
The other driver was charged with DUI-manslaughter in the Interstate 95 crash in St. Johns County where the Adams family was on their way back from the Mandarin vs. Miami Columbus state championship high school football game. Cathy Adams was 43.
