New 14-Screen Cinemark Will Be Built At Atlantic And Kernan

Cinemark

Competition among Southside area movie theaters will soon be increasing.

Jacksonville developer Sleiman Enterprises and Cinemark Holdings Inc. have announced plans to build a new 14-screen movie theater in phase two of the Atlantic North shopping center that’s on the northwest  side of Atlantic and Kernan boulevards in East Arlington.

Amenities will include:

•             A XD large format screen auditorium.

•             Electric-powered oversize recliners with footrests and cup holders.

•             Wall-to-wall screens and sound systems.

•             4k digital projectors with RealD 3D capability.

•             A lobby with concessions

The shopping center is anchored by Belk, Earth Fare, Academy Sports + Outdoors and LA Fitness.

In addition to the movie theater, phase two of Atlantic North will have an additional 300,000-square-feet of space available for future tenants.

“Cinemark’s exceptional facility will also serve as a catalyst for advancing phase two, bringing Sleiman Enterprises’ development at Atlantic and Kernan to a total of 550,000 square feet,” said Sleiman Enterprises leasing spokeswoman Ashleigh Sleiman.

This will be the second Cinemark theater on Jacksonville's Southside. The company also operates Cinemark Tinseltown and XD at 4535 Southside Blvd.

The new theater is scheduled to open in the summer of 2020.

Cinemark also announced last year it is building a 12-screen movie theater at the Pavilion at Durbin Park. That theater is expected to open in the fall.
