New Local Art Coming To JAX Airport
Travelers passing through the Jacksonville International Airport are treated to works by local artists.
The pieces are in two galleries and scattered throughout the terminal. Every summer, the airport puts the call out for new works to take their place.
On Monday’s First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross, Jen Jones-Murray with the airport’s art commission said art makes the environment more soothing and uplifting.
“When we - members of the commission - go to the airport, we always see people in the gallery. And we always think, when we see them, we hope it’s bringing them that kind of relaxation in the midst of running around traveling that you don’t get normally.”
Now through August 31, new and established artists can submit their work for consideration.
Not only will the art be seen by people online and at the airport, the artists can also make money from the sale of their work.
