A portion of Seagate Avenue in Neptune Beach has been closed as part of the State Road A1A (Third Street) drainage project.
The Florida Department of Transportation said the Seagate Avenue Bridge is being replaced.
It’s being closed concurrently with the Fifth Street Bridge with the goal being to get as much work done as possible while school is out of session.
All told, five bridges will be replaced as part of channel improvements to improve drainage in some of the most flood-prone areas of Jacksonville Beach.
Drivers on Fifth Street are being detoured to Oleander Street onto Fourth Street, then to Hopkins Street and Third Street/A1A before turning onto 18th Avenue North and 10th Street North. Drivers on Seagate Avenue will be detoured onto 10th Street North, then to 18th Avenue and 3rd Street/A1A, according to the FDOT.
The FDOT hopes to reopen Seagate Avenue before the end of August.
