Duval County Schools Superintendent Diana Greene on Tuesday rolled out her own strategy for repairing, upgrading and rebuilding the district’s aging school buildings, some of which are more than 100 years old.
Greene calls hers "A Bold Plan for DCPS."
But unlike the nearly $2 billion facilities master plan developed by consultants, Greene said her nearly $2 billion dollar fix was shaped by public feedback.
Differences between the two include rebuilding both Raines and Ribault High Schools instead of combining them with feeder middle schools and preserving Kirby-Smith Middle and Loretto Elementary instead of tearing them down.
And, should voters approve a half-cent sales tax hike, Greene wants to float a $500 million bond initiative right out of the gate so that work can begin immediately on the projects that school board members consider top priorities in their individual districts.
