The Derby House Diner in Five Points has closed.
“It is with deep regret and heavy hearts that we have decided to close our doors. We thank all of our staff for helping us bring our vision to life with an amazing menu and wonderful service. Thank you to all who supported us,” the owners wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page Monday.
Just last month the Derby held what it billed as a grand opening party after being rebranded and originally reopening in June.
WJCT News partner the Jacksonville Daily Record has previously reported the latest version of the Derby was a venture between Michael Schmidt and Chad Munsey, who also own the The Bearded Pig restaurant in San Marco and the Rec Room bar and arcade, which is also in Five Points.
Before Schmidt and Munsey took over the restaurant, it was known as the Derby on Park.
A reason for the closing or next steps for the building weren't announced.
In March, Schmidt estimated the Derby House Diner would hire between 25 to 40 full- and part-time employees.
WJCT News reported in December 2018 that the Derby on Park was closed by its previous owners, Dwayne Beliakoff and Jonathan Cobbs as 2018 came to a close.
The Derby has been a fixture in Five Points through multiple incarnations since the 1940s, according to The Times-Union.
