Job Fair Planned For Workers That Will Be Displaced By Adult Arcade Closures

News4Jax

Now that a federal judge has denied an injunction request, scores of internet cafes in Jacksonville must shut their doors.

The businesses, also known as adult arcades, must get rid of machines that simulate slot machines or other gambling, according to WJCT partner News4Jax.

They can stay open if they have other attractions.

Jacksonville attorney Kelly Mathis filed a motion for an injunction to stop the city from banning the game rooms, but a federal judge denied it on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the City Council is offering to help more than 2,000 arcade employees that are expected be displaced from their jobs.

The council is partnering with CareerSource and Goodwill Industries of North Florida to hold a job fair on Thursday, October 24, at the Emmett Reed Community Center on West 6th Street.
