Nearly 6,000 inactive voters in Camden County, Ga. are in danger of not being able to participate in the state’s presidential preference primary next spring unless they let the elections office know they’re still around.
Georgia defines an inactive voter as someone who hasn’t voted or updated their registration in the past five years and who didn’t respond to notices from election officials.
Camden Elections Supervisor Shannon Nettles told WJCT News the 6,000 inactive voters represent nearly a fifth of the county’s rolls — but that’s not a surprise in such a transient area.

“We’re a military community as well. We have a large base here - Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base - and those men and those men and women are often moved around every couple of years. So they might have voted three years ago but the last piece of mail we sent them has been returned,” said Nettles.
Voters on inactive list who do still live in Camden County have until early December to contact her office.
Otherwise, she said, they’ll have to reregister by February 24 if they want to vote in the March 24 Georgia presidential primary. Georgia voters can check their registration status or register to vote on the Georgia Secretary of State's My Voter Page.
A side note for Florida readers, the Sunshine State’s presidential primary will be March 17.
