Nassau County is set to receive more than $1.2 million dollars from the federal government to restore the beach on South Amelia Island damaged by Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
The money means the county can hire contractors to repair the shoreline.
“Today’s announcement from FEMA is great news for Nassau County,” U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) said in an email to WJCT News Tuesday. “I remain committed to assisting all communities around the state in hurricane recovery.”
The funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Public Assistance program created to help communities recover from major disasters and emergencies.
