The Salvation Army in Jacksonville will open its cold night shelter at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, for the first 60 people to arrive.
The Salvation Army in Jacksonville opens the cold night shelter when overnight lows dip below 42 degrees, providing protection and relief to homeless men, women, and families who might otherwise be out in the elements all night.
The forecast low in Jacksonville Wednesday night is 41 degrees.
A hot dinner will be served at 6:30pm, as it is at the Center of Hope every night of the year. The shelter is located at 900 West Adams St., across from Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing Park in LaVilla.

After dinner, guests will be given a safe and warm place to sleep for the night, and breakfast in the morning.
Major Keath Biggers, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida, said in an email to WJCT News, “We’re grateful for our staff and volunteers who will be facilitating this service, as well as our donors, partners and friends whose support is crucial for us to continue to do the most good, to the most people in the most need.”
