The Jacksonville Transportation Authority will get  $16.6 million dollars for its First Coast Flyer project.

The money from the U.S. Department of Transportation will be used for the Southwest Corridor Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line.

The nearly 13-mile BRT line will go from the Prime Osborn Convention Center Downtown to Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Kent Campus and end at the Orange Park Mall in Clay County.

The total cost of the Southwest Corridor is expected to be $33.2 million.

“The Southwest Corridor BRT project will provide fast and efficient service, improving mobility and access to a regional BRT network that carries thousands of riders every day,” said Federal Transit Administration Acting Administrator K. Jane Williams.

The new line will be completed this year, according to JTA.
