There’s Just 1 Week Left To Register To Vote In Florida’s Presidential Primary

BRENDAN RIVERS / WJCT NEWS

February 18 is the deadline to register to vote or change political parties for the March 17 Presidential Preference Primary Election in Florida.

Clay County Supervisor of Elections spokeswoman Heather Stewart reminded voters Monday that Florida is a closed primary state. That means voters can only vote for candidates in the party they belong to in the primary.

Voters who wish to cast a preference for a presidential candidate in one of the parties will need to register with a party by February 18.

Robert Phillips with Duval County Election Supervisor's Office said his county has more than 150,000 unaffiliated voters.

"There won’t be anything for you to be able to vote on there, because there’s a Republican ballot and a Democrat ballot," he said.

Florida voters can make party changes and update their signatures online at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov.

Registration can also be done on Supervisor of Elections websites or in person at their offices:

And Duval County voters can also register to vote at any Jacksonville Public Library branch.
