It takes the average Jacksonville working renter 56 hours to earn enough money to pay the landlord.
That’s according to SmartAsset, which looked at the average annual take-home pay, average number of hours worked per year and median monthy rent in the nation’s 25 largest cities.
The study finds Jacksonville has a median monthly rent of $1,074 and an estimated average hourly wage of $19.18.
Of the cities the finance technology company looked at, San Jose, California, required the most hours of work to pay the rent, at 76, while Detroit required the fewest at 41.3.
A report last year found rents in Jacksonville had jumped 6.3% over a one-year period. RENTCafé compared March 2018 to March 2019.
That was almost double the national average, which saw a year-over-year increase of 3.2%.
