A federal committee focused on environmental justice is meeting in Jacksonville this week.
The National Environmental Justice Advisory Council, or NEJAC, is a federal advisory committee to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The council, which was established in 1993, provides advice and recommendations to help the EPA incorporate environmental justice considerations into its programs and policies.
The week’s public meetings in Jacksonville, which are free, kick off with a public comment period at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, and will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 26 and 27.
The meetings on Wednesday and Thursday will focus on environmental justice issues facing communities in Florida and the southeastern U.S., the reuse and revitalization of Superfund and other contaminated sites, and community resilience.
Pre-registration to attend and for public comment closed on Feb. 16, but onsite registration is available Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 3 p.m. at the Omni Jacksonville Hotel, where all of the meetings are being held.
