Jacksonville Transportation Authority riders will notice some changes next time they hop on a bus.
On Friday the transit agency started blocking off up to 18 seats per vehicle to increase and encourage social distancing as Jacksonville tries to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Extra buses are also being used on routes, as needed, to prevent crowding and minimize delays, according to JTA spokesman David C. Cawton II.
JTA has been cleaning and disinfecting JTA vehicles daily and doing additional cleanings of buses as they come into the Rosa Parks Transit Station. Cleaning at all JTA facilities has also increased.
The modified bus schedule that began on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, will continue until further notice. Updated schedules are available at www.jtafla.com.
The Skyway remains closed. Connexion and Connexion Plus services, ReadiRide, the Nassau Express Select and the St. Johns River Ferry remain open. Customers must stay in their vehicles when boarding the ferry. Pedestrian boarding is limited.
The opening of the new Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center at LaVilla has also been delayed until further notice.
