The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville will be giving $2,500 grants to six local organizations.
The board voted virtually on Thursday to approve the Cultural Service Program Grants for AVANT, the Jacksonville Arts and Music School, Riverside Avondale Preservation, the San Marco Chamber Music Society, and two theater companies: Stage Aurora and The 5 & Dime.
But that left a good chunk of money available for other cultural organizations.
“There were $25,000 for that pot of funding, and that was allocated before we knew how many applicants we would have,” Director of Grants Administration Amy Palmer explained to the board. “We had six eligible applicants, and actually all of them were recommended for award. So that leaves $10,000.”
The board ended up agreeing with the grant committee’s recommendation that the remaining $10,000 be redistributed evenly to all cultural service grantees from the past year, which includes WJCT.
That means each organization will get about $400.
