Councilman Danny Becton currently represents District 11, or the southeastern corner of Duval County.

Jacksonville City Councilman Danny Becton is running for the Council presidency.

Councilman Rory Diamond tweeted a letter from Becton declaring his candidacy. He will run against current councilman and former Jacksonville mayor Tommy Hazouri.

Current council President Scott Wilson has announced he is resigning to run for Duval County Clerk of Courts.

Becton and Hazouri have both been on the city council since 2015. Becton serves district 11, which includes the southeastern corner of Duval County, while Hazouri holds an at-large seat.

The council will take a vote Tuesday via email to determine the next president. The winner needs 10 votes.
