Protesters block the Main Street Bridge on Saturday in what started as a peaceful protest. Later, people would damage buildings Downtown.

Jacksonville is under a mandatory citywide curfew overnight, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry announced early Sunday evening.

The mayor cited “criminal activity that threatens first responders” as the reason for the curfew from 8 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.

Curry tweeted, “Let me say this plainly, if you are in our streets after 8 p.m. you are subject to arrest by law enforcement. No one may travel upon city streets except for 1st responders, credentialed media, people going to/from work.”

The mayor said first responders and private property need to be protected from threats of criminal activity, and “law abiding citizens” who need to travel to and from work during curfew hours may do so.

Dozens of protesters gathered in the streets near the Duval County Courthouse Sunday to call for an end to police brutality in the city and across the nation.

That’s after protests on Saturday turned destructive and violentSaturday.

Due to damage caused Saturday, the Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office announced it would not reopen as planned on Monday, June 1,  for walk-in service. However, the office will be staffed for phone calls.

"We expect to be open for walk-in service by Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. As always, the safety of voters and staff are of the upmost importance. We will keep you notified of any additional changes," the office said in an email to WJCT News.

JSO closed Klutho Park in Springfield to the public after it was believed protesters were planning to gather there.
