The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in solving the homicides of two men found dead in a burning SUV in 2016.

Charles Ray Durden, 27, of Fleming Island, and Staffon Demarius Larry, 26, of St. Augustine, were found  along Fred Waters Way and Spring Street in St. Augustine. Investigators later confirmed the cause of death was by gunshot and arson.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said in an email to WJCT News Tuesday it was renewing its effort to solve the case, and detectives want to bring closure and justice to the families of Durden and Larry.

Detectives believe there may be some in the community with additional information about the case that wasn’t part of what some anonymous tipsters originally provided.

Detectives are asking those original tipsters and anyone who may have had information at the time, or who have heard anything related to the killings since, to contact the St. Johns County Major Crimes Unit by calling Detective Jon Dees at 904-209-2130, or you can remain anonymous by calling Crimestoppers at 800-277-TIPS.
