Operation Homefront, in partnership with CSX, will distribute hundreds of backpacks and school supplies to the children of military families in the Jacksonville area on Tuesday, July 28, as part of Operation Homefront’s annual Back-to-School Brigade.
The national program aims to ensure military children are set up for success for the new school year, whether returning in person or virtually.
The local giveaway will be held Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Naval Station Mayport Homes Community Center at 1202 Assisi Lane in Atlantic Beach.
This year, the event will be delivered in a drive-through format that adheres to federal, state and local CDC guidelines.
During this year’s campaign, Operation Homefront will distribute its 400,000th backpack since 2008, saving military families more than $50 million in back to school expenses over the life of the program, according to the organization.
The annual program is also sponsored by national partners Dollar Tree and SAIC.
