BILL BORTZFIELD / WJCT NEWS

The Camden County Board of Elections is getting an infusion of funds to try to ensure voters’ safety during the coronavirus epidemic.

Election officials in the Southeast Georgia county said staff is putting in extra hours to handle the record number of absentee ballots that are coming in.

A $34,000 grant from the Center for Tech and Civic Life will help with personnel costs as well as buying cleaning supplies and equipment.

Early voting starts Tuesday, October 13, in Georgia. Election Day nationwide is Tuesday, November 3.

The non-profit Center for Tech and Civic Life is based in Chicago. It provides support to local elections offices across the U-S.

Additional information for Camden County voters is available on the county’s website.
