A Ribault High School football player faces dual charges following Friday's shooting incident that left a teammate injured in the campus field house, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The 18-year-old, who is not being named by WJCT News partner The Florida Times-Union because he's a high school student, was charged with felony possession of a firearm on school property and carrying a concealed weapon. He was released into home detention pending his next court appearance on Nov. 2, jail records show.

Duval County School Police were called about 2 p.m. to a discharge of a firearm at the school at 3701 Winton Drive off Moncrief Road. Witnesses pointed to a suspect and officers took him into custody without incident and recovered a firearm, the Sheriff's Office said.

The victim, also 18, was with the suspect and a third person about 1:45 p.m. when the .380-caliber handgun went off in the school's weight room, according to the arrest report. The suspect was "playing" with the gun, loading and unloading it when it went off. The victim told investigators no threats were made, nor was the weapon pointed at him.
