A $4 million reconstruction of a half-mile stretch of 5th Street on Jacksonville's Westside between Melson Avenue and Huron Street is underway.

The construction area is being reconfigured into a three-lane road with new turn lanes, bicycle lanes, curbs and new street lighting, according to the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA).

Drainage, water and sewer imrpovements are also part of project. Because of the construction, a detour for JTA bus Route 32, "McDuff" is in effect until further notice.

Missed bus stops include #3477 and #3478 along Detroit Street, stop #4188 along Melson Avenue and stop #5177 along 5th Street. JTA said will post additional detours throughout the project.

JTA expects the reconstruction to be completed by the summer of 2022.
