Dean Black (right) has been reelected as the Duval County GOP chairman.

The Republican Party of Duval County's Executive Committee has unanimously voted to reelect Dean Black as the county's party chairman.

Although President Donald Trump lost to President-elect Joe Biden 47.3% to 51.1% in Duval County, the GOP had a strong showing in most other races, winning seven out of the eight down-ballot partisan matchups in the county.

The only Democrat outside of Biden to win at the local level was incumbant U.S. Rep. Al Lawson, D-FL5, who beat Gary Adler 66.8% to 33.2% in the heavily Democratic district that stretches west to Tallahassee.

The GOP victories came despite Democrats' holding a significant voter registration advantage in the county. As of Dec. 15, there were 279,631 registered Democrats and 239,861 registered Republicans in Duval County.

The turnout for the general election in Duval County was 74.6%, with 495,840 ballots cast.

"We are transforming the Duval GOP into a sustained political operation in our region, and I'm proud to continue that fight. I want to thank the members of our committee for their support," Black said in an email to WJCT News.
