GOP National Committee Gathers On Amelia Island Amid Week Of Violence

In a week that saw rioters swarm the Capitol when Congress met to certify Joe Biden's election as president, the Republican National Committee has gathered in Amelia Island to take stock of how the GOP will move forward on the heels of Georgia voters electing two Democrats to the U.S. Senate.

The Republican National Committee started its four-day meeting on Tuesday, so the party leaders gathered at the coastal resort would have seen the shocking events in the Capitol building unfold on television screens, according to WJCT News partner The Florida Times-Union.

The RNC issued a statement from its members that said the "violent scenes we have witnessed do not represent acts of patriotism, but an attack on our country and its founding principles."

"Our Founding Fathers established a nation of laws, not a nation of anarchy," the statement said. "We call for all those involved to listen to law enforcement officials and help restore order in our nation’s capital.”
