Groundbreaking Held For New Southside Multi-Specialty Surgery Center
Jax Spine & Pain Center, in a collaborative effort with UF Health Jacksonville, broke ground Wednesday on a new multi-specialty surgery center and medical office building.
Once completed in the spring of 2022, the three-story, 54,000-square-foot medical facility at 5191 First Coast Technical Parkway on Jacksonville’s Southside will have twelve outpatient operating suites and procedure rooms.
Called the Centurion Surgery Center, the future building’s occupants will provide neurosurgical, interventional pain management, orthopedic, gastrointestinal, oral, and maxillofacial, surgical, and gynecological care for patients.
The center will be open five days a week in what’s being billed as a state-of-the-art facility. It will serve as the largest and first of several surgery centers to open in Northeast Florida and South Georgia to emphasize spinal care.
“We wanted a place that catered to interventional spine procedures and allowed us to have an environment that we could give great care in an outpatient care facility specialized and created specifically for pain management,” said the founder of Jax Spine and Pain Centers, Dr. Christopher Roberts, in an email to WJCT News.
Founded in 1999, Jax Spine & Pain Centers provides what it describes as progressive interventional pain relief in Northeast Florida.
Jax Spine & Pain Centers have helped patients improve mobility, decrease or eliminate their pain, and regain an active lifestyle, the organization said.
“This is a great opportunity for UF Health to work hand-in-hand with one of this region’s leaders in outpatient surgical care,” said Leon L. Haley Jr., MD, CEO of UF Health Jacksonville and dean of the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville.
With a focus on providing clinically proven solutions for acute and chronic pain relief, Jax Spine & Pain Centers said its facilities are Veterans Choice approved.
It currently has six locations, with a seventh opening soon. UF Health Jacksonville is a private, not-for-profit hospital affiliated with the University of Florida health campuses in Jacksonville and Gainesville.
