The Jacksonville City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to formally accept the final report from the Special Committee on Resiliency, which lays out dozens of policy recommendations that would help the River City deal with the causes and effects of climate change

The goal of the nearly 100 page report is to provide the city’s future Chief Resiliency Officer with a foundation to begin work.

That role is expected to be filled sometime this summer.

It will be up to the CRO as to whether the policy recommendations outlined in the report are pursued.

Implementing the recommendations could cost the city billions of dollars, but they are estimated to save much more than that in the long run, in part by helping protect residents from the effects of climate change and sea level rise.
