Woman Killed, Man Shot As Camden County Deputies Serve Search Warrant

Camden County deputies and GBI agents investigate a fatal police-involved shooting in Camden County.

Two people were shot - one fatally - while Camden County deputies were serving a search warrant before dawn Tuesday morning on U.S. 17 south of Woodbine, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

WJCT News partner News4Jax reported the officer-involved shooting occurred at about 4:45 a.m. No officers were injured.

No other information was immediately released other than the Sheriff’s Office confirming that it did ask the GBI to take over the investigation of the incident.

The family of the victims told News4Jax the woman killed as 37-year-old Latoya James, the mother of a young child, and 46-year-old VarShaun Brown was taken to UF Health in Jacksonville.
