City Councilman: Casino Operators Eyeing Site Near Jacksonville Airport
Jacksonville City Council member Reggie Gaffney said Thursday he understands global casino operator Las Vegas Sands Corp. is eyeing the area around Jacksonville International Airport as a potential site for a casino complex if Florida voters approve a statewide gambling referendum in November 2022.
Gaffney said a Northside location would give casino guests easy access to the airport for fight connections during their stays, and also help attract Georgia residents by having the casino on the side of Jacksonville closest to the state line.
Regardless of where a casino is built in Jacksonville, Gaffney said he would support having one in the city.
