3 City Council members endorse removal of Confederate statue from Springfield Park

The city wrapped the statue in the Women of the Southland monument in Springfield Park last year. Mayor Lenny Curry plans to file legislation for removing the entire monument at an estimated $1.3 million.

Three members of the Jacksonville City Council say they support the removing of the Confederate monument at Springfield Park, which it was recently revealed could cost more than $1 million to do.

A news release from the Northside Coalition of Jacksonville reveals statements from three different City Council members, who each backed the removal of the monument.

On Wednesday, Councilman Matt Carlucci, who recently announced he’s running for mayor, publicly released a statement supporting the removal of the statue in Springfield.
