Northerners longing for the sun and sand next spring will have a new option for getting to Jacksonville.

Sun Country Airlines announced Tuesday that it will begin seasonal service to Jacksonville International Airport from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport beginning April 8.

Flights will operate twice weekly — on Fridays and Mondays. Introductory fares start at $69 one-way. They are available at suncountry.com.

“With more folks eager to resume leisure travel, we’re excited to be able to offer them another option to get away this spring and summer to enjoy the Sunshine State,” Sun Country Chief Revenue Officer Grant Whitney said in a news release. “We know there is pent-up demand for convenient, affordable travel, and we’re here to help folks enjoy the vacations they’ve been dreaming about.”

The Jacksonville flights were among 11 that Sun Country announced Tuesday. The low-cost carrier, based in Minnesota, will now serve 10 airports in Florida.

Sun Country flies more than 100 routes to 80 airports in the United States, Mexico, Central America, Canada and the Caribbean.
