The final corner of the 1914 Doro Fixture Co. building complex came down in a shower of bricks Thursday afternoon.

The foundation is being laid as construction is underway on an upscale apartment building that developers say is at the forefront of Jacksonville's downtown Sports and Entertainment District.

The Doro will be eight stories with 247 apartments plus retail shops, a first-floor restaurant and rooftop amenities, including a bar/lounge, swimming pool and top-notch view. There also will be a seven-floor parking deck with 284 spaces, according to developer RISE: A Real Estate Company.

The roughly $46 million apartment complex is on schedule to open in July 2023, Courtney Gordon, chief operating officer of RISE, told the Times-Union. RISE also owns the Doro property and is the general contractor for the apartment project.
