Large pharmacy chains are among the first to offer COVID vaccines for kids in Jacksonville.

Duval County public school students have Thursday and Friday off this week, for Veterans’ Day and a weather day, and the district is hoping parents will use the time off to get kids vaccinated against COVID.

Duval County Public Schools, along with the Florida Department of Health, is offering COVID vaccines for children 5 and up on Friday at four school campuses.

First doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be administered from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 Friday morning at First Coast High and Riverside High schools, and Springfield and Landmark middle schools.

Second doses will be available at the same times and places Dec. 4, with a separate consent form needed.

The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages all families to get the vaccine, saying it will make holiday gatherings safer.
