The last remaining two-lane piece of Race Track Road finally has money locked in for widening that bottleneck to four lanes, but it still will be a few years before drivers from booming bedroom communities will see construction begin.
Jacksonville City Council approved nearly $10.7 million for widening a stretch of the east-west road that hugs the Duval-St. Johns county line.
The state Department of Transportation has a separate project coming up that will build a new four-lane overpass where Race Track Road spans Interstate 95 as part of a widening project for I-95.
