After a tumultuous 2021 season, Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan has fired head coach Urban Meyer, he announced early Thursday morning.

The move came just hours after The Tampa Bay Times reported Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo alleged Meyer kicked him during practice.

In the interview, Lambo said that after the Jaguars’ first two preseason games, Meyer came up to him and used expletives before delivering a kick over missed field goals during the first couple of preseason games.

In his statement, Kahn said, “After deliberation over many weeks and a thorough analysis of Urban’s tenure with our team. I am bitterly disappointed to arrive at the conclusion that an immediate change is imperative for everyone.”

Meyer brought much controversy to the team, beginning with the hiring of a strength and conditioning coach who had been accused of racist behavior at the University of Iowa.

In October, Meyer was seen in a viral video getting cozy with a woman who was not his wife at a bar in Ohio after the Jaguars lost to the Cincinnati Bengals.

A story last week by NFL.com also alleged that Meyer had gotten into a heated argument with receiver Marvin Jones Jr. and had used abusive language to his assistant coaches.

During Meyer’s tenure, the Jaguars went 2-11.

The Jaguars play the Houston Texans at home on Sunday. Offensive Coordinator Darrell Bevall will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
