Just in time for Christmas: A winter storm threat in Florida

An early winter storm system is developing over the Southern Plains and barreling eastward.

Meteorologist Justin Ballard says as that system arrives to our area on Tuesday, it will bring with it the potential for strong storms.

A powerful area of low pressure will usher in a cold front Tuesday. Ahead of the cold front, a favorable environment for strong thunderstorms is likely.

Storms could pose a damaging wind threat, but heavy rainfall is also possible, which could lead to localized brief flash flooding.

Ballard says that rain should arrive overnight and last through at least the mid afternoon tomorrow. He says that on top of local flooding, he can't rule out the potential for a brief tornado or damaging winds, especially early in the afternoon.
