An internet service provider based in Jacksonville plans a 10-gigabit fiber-optic network in Atlantic Beach.
IQ Fiber says it will begin this spring to install conduit and fiber-optic cables from its internet backbone directly into customers' homes. It plans eventually to expand fiber-optic service across Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties.
The project is intended to meet increasing demand for fast internet service, IQ Fiber says. Average broadband usage is increasing over 25% per year in the U.S., the company said in a news release.
IQ Fiber did not announce costs for the service but said month-to-month plans will have no hidden fees or data caps.
“We are building not just a network that is purpose-built for the modern internet, but also providing a streamlined and simplified customer experience that removes the hassles consumers endure today,” CEO Ted Schremp said in a news release.
Atlantic Beach Mayor Ellen Glasser welcomed IQ Fiber to town.
“I’m certain our residents and businesses will appreciate having a new choice for internet service," Glasser said in the news release — "and that the service is being provided by a local company.”
