Just over half of Duval Schools employees got vaccine payout

Records show that about 56% of Duval Schools employees cashed in on the $200 incentive available for getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

The $200 incentives owed to teachers and other Duval Schools employees who got vaccinated against COVID-19 are hitting paychecks this month. But just over half of the employees who were eligible took advantage.

In October, the school board voted to approve an agreement that included emergency coronavirus leave time and a vaccine incentive for its employees. The language agreed upon said that school district employees who either provided proof of being vaccinated or submitted a waiver for an approved accommodation by the end of the year would receive the bonus.

Now, records obtained by the Times-Union reveal that 6,800 employees — 56 percent of the 12,000 employees who were eligible — received their $200. This includes anyone that may have turned in an exemption waiver. The numbers were not broken down by vaccination status, job category or school.
