JU organizing debates for governor and other races

With November elections looming, Jacksonville University is trying to arrange “a few different debates this fall,” including one between candidates in the state’s race for governor, a school spokeswoman said Friday.

Events and dates haven’t been publicized as organizers work through scheduling details, but Democrat Nikki Fried’s campaign announced her intention to be part of a debate for general-election gubernatorial candidates at 8 p.m. Oct. 6 at Terry Concert Hall.

“I am looking forward to coming to Jacksonville to debate Ron DeSantis face to face this October,” a release from the agriculture commissioner’s campaign quoted her saying.
