Medical examiner dies in St. Johns County

St. Johns County Medical Examiner Dr. Predrag Bulic died over the weekend of unspecified health complications.

Bulic served St. Johns, Putnam and Flagler counties for nearly 11 years.  He led the District 23 Medical Examiner’s Office in determining the cause and manner of deaths under circumstances such as homicides, suicides or accidents.

“We are sorry to hear of Dr. Bulic’s unexpected passing. Our hearts go out to his wife and family during this difficult time," said Hunter Conrad, St. Johns County administrator. "He led the Medical Examiner’s Office with the utmost professionalism and attention to detail. He will be greatly missed in our community."

Bulic was appointed by former Gov. Rick Scott.  A Florida Times-Union story at that time said he was on duty the night that celebrity heiress Anna Nicole Smith died in Hollywood, Florida, and his forensics team determined her cause of death.

Predrag Bulic was 63. His exact cause of death was not announced.

Dr. Jon Thogmartin will be the interim medical examiner.
