A management plan that will help visitors better enjoy the 40-square-mile Cumberland Island National Seashore barrier island off St. Marys, Georgia, is available for public review and comment.
Public discussion of the plan, which will also protect the area’s wildlife, ecosystems, century-old historic buildings and other resources, will be held at a virtual public meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 17.
National Park Service staff developed the plan to provide visitors, including those who are disadvantaged and unable to visit, with opportunities to do so. That includes changes to its 38-year-old management plan that allowed about 300 visitors a day.
The proposed plan allows selective doubling of that to be consistent with current practices for managing visitor use on public lands.
