Multiple detours are scheduled this week on parts of the Interstate 10 widening project from Interstate 295 to Interstate 95.
Crews will perform bridge construction at multiple exits from Roosevelt Boulevard all the way west to the I-295 interchange, state transportation officials said.
The $174.5 million project began in mid-2020 and is set to be done in 2025. It includes up to 10 lanes between I-295 and I-95. Average daily traffic ranges from about 8,000 to 12,000 vehicles a day on that stretch, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. Volume is expected to increase significantly over the next two decades.
The planned detours are:
- I-10 East Exit to I-295: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, making drivers continue east to the Lane Avenue exit, then back onto the I-10 west on-ramp so they can continue to I-295.
- McDuff Avenue at I-10: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, as northbound drivers are detoured right on Rosselle Street, left on Stockton Street and left on Edison Avenue to reconnect with McDuff Avenue. Southbound drivers will be detoured left on Edison Avenue, right on Stockton Street and right on Rosselle Street to connect with McDuff Avenue.
- I-10 East exit to McDuff Avenue: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.,Sunday, through Tuesday, as drivers continue on I-10 east to the Stockton Street exit, turn right, then right again on Irene Street, and take the I-10 ramp to connect with McDuff Avenue.
- McDuff Avenue to the I-10 East on-ramp: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, where southbound drivers will be detoured left on Edison Avenue, then right on Stockton Street to connect with I-10 east. Northbound drivers will turn right on Rosselle Street to connect with I-10 east.
- I-10 West exit to McDuff Avenue: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, as drivers are detoured to the Luna Street exit, then right on Lenox Avenue to McDuff Avenue. Drivers can also continue on to Stockton Street, then Rosselle Street and McDuff Avenue, if the destination is south of I-10.
- McDuff Avenue to the I-10 West on-ramp: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, as drivers will be detoured west on Lenox Avenue, then left on Cassat Avenue to connect with I-10.
- I-10 West exit to Luna Street: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Wednesday, with drivers detoured to the Cassat Avenue exit, then right, and right again on Highway Avenue to connect with Luna Street.
- I-10 West exit to U.S. 17/Roosevelt Boulevard: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday, as drivers will be detoured to the McDuff Avenue exit , then left to connect with Roosevelt Boulevard.
- I-10 East to Cassat Avenue exit: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, when drivers will be detoured to McDuff Avenue, then left on to Lenox Avenue to connect with Cassat Avenue.
- I-10 West to Lane Avenue exit: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, as drivers will be detoured to I-295 north, then take the Commonwealth Avenue exit and turn right to connect with Lane Avenue.
In other news from FDOT, the long-awaited Fuller Warren Shared Use Path will officially open at 11 a.m. Thursday, joining the Riverside and San Marco communities.
The 4,654-foot-long walkway has two 6-foot lanes for east/west traffic, and a pair of rest/observation areas with views of the St. Johns River. Users can access it from Riverside Avenue in Riverside, from Palm Avenue in San Marco or from the sidewalk adjacent to the river behind Nemours Children’s Hospital.
The shared use path is part of the $126 million operational improvements project at I-10 and I-95 started in mid-2017. It is expected to be done soon, FDOT said.
