Construction has begun on a new Baptist and Wolfson emergency room and imaging center at the former home of the outlet mall in St. Augustine.
When construction is done in about a year, the 23,879-square-foot facility will house two emergency centers under one roof, with room to grow as the need arises.
Baptist Health bought the 8.5-acre St. Augustine Outlets property, situated between Bozard Ford and Adamec Harley-Davidson, in May 2021. The land is just north of Florida 16, just east of Interstate 95 in St. Augustine.
The emergency center on Outlet Mall Boulevard will be home to Baptist Emergency Center for adults and Wolfson Children’s Emergency Center for younger patients up to age 17. The facility will offer easier access to specialized pediatric care offered by Wolfson Children’s, the only state-designated Pediatric Trauma Center in Northeast Florida, Baptist Health said.
The facility will also offer an imaging center for outpatients, offering X-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, mammography and bone density screenings.
The facility also can be expanded as the need grows, officials said. That could include 5,000 square feet on the south end of the emergency department and up to 70,000 square feet of physician office or outpatient procedural space to the north.
